Despite enjoying football and running as a kid, Sholto was inspired to start rowing when he saw his sister start to compete at junior international level and decided he wanted in, joining the City of Oxford Rowing Club aged 12. Sholto made his GB debut as a junior in 2013, secured silver medals at the U23 World Championships in both the men’s eights and fours and then attended Yale University to read economics where he was part of crews that won consecutive Ivy League and National Championship titles.
2019 was a breakout season for Sholto in the Men’s Four, becoming European Champion, securing World Cup III silver and winning bronze at the World Rowing Championships in Austria. With the 2020 season largely postponed, 2021 saw Sholto and the Men’s Fours build on their earlier success by retaining their European title, securing gold at the Rowing World Cup II in Lucerne and narrowly missing out on a medal at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
Sholto’s favourite race is Henley Royal regatta where he is able to represent Leander Club and race in front of home fans, family and friends. Outside of rowing Sholto is a keen cyclist and enjoys getting out in the British countryside for a spin whenever he can.
When does Sholto use LifeJacket and why?
Rowing as a profession means I’m constantly exposed to UV rays, both directly and from the reflection off the water, so I have to take extra care. I’m a big fan of the Daily Protection Moisturiser as it has got me in the habit of using UV protection every day. Sunburn especially can write you off for days so being on top of my skin health, whether that is at home, on training camps or during competition is crucial for maximizing performance.
I particularly like the LifeJacket Sun Gels as unlike most other sun creams it doesn’t run into my eyes when sweating nor are they sticky, which is especially critical for my hands and the rowing handle. This allows me to row with total protection without stressing that it will impact my performance.
