How to use our products and what’s the difference between them?

It’s hard to get everything we want to say about our products into one mobile-friendly, social-media-optimised web page.

That’s especially true because we’re really proud of what we’ve made and have so much to say about each product. Understandably, we recognise you don’t have time to read our product bibles and, let’s be real, there are better things to do than listen to one of us preaching.

However…

A lot of people do ask us how to use the products they’ve bought. Others ask the difference between certain products. So, for those who DO want more, we prepared some extra info for those who want it.

We constantly have new product development in the pipeline and will make sure to always keep this post updated with our live catalogue so you can fall back on this if the product pages aren’t hitting the mark for you.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

SPF 30 Daily Protection Moisturiser

Product lowdown
This is an everyday, all year round moisturiser. We designed it for the face, head and neck but it can be used on any part of the body. It does the job of a normal moisturiser but also protects you from skin-damaging UV rays with SPF 30 and UVA 5* protection.

Of all our products, it’s the one we would describe as being most like a cream, albeit lightweight and non-greasy. It doesn’t contain alcohol or fragrance, two ingredients some people can find irritating. We excluded both of these elements when formulating because we want as broad an audience as possible to be able to use it, every single day.

Finally, and in answer to a very common question, the difference between this product and our SPF 30 Sun Gel is the fact it doubles up as a moisturiser for daily use, so contains hydrating ingredients that are not in our classic sunscreens.

How to use it
Use at the start of your day or whenever your skin feels dry or tight. That way, you know your skin is protected and moisturised the moment you step outside, regardless of the season. As a moisturiser, it absorbs quickly, spreads easily and makes your skin feel supple.

Other quick facts
– Clinically and dermatologically tested
– Suitable for sensitive skin
– Water resistant
– Blend of chemical and mineral filters
– Not tested on animals
– Does NOT contain: parabens, SLES or SLS

Daily Repair Moisturiser

Product lowdown
We designed this as an end-of-the-day moisturiser to repair the skin overnight. This product does NOT contain SPF or offer protection from UV rays. Think of it as nutrition and repair for your skin overnight. It contains some really smart active ingredients like Benzylidene which works as a pollution neutraliser by binding to the many pollutants our skin is exposed to, preventing them from penetrating into the dermis and critically repairing UVB damage. It also contains a natural compound that soothes the skin and provides relief from stinging and rawness. Again, we designed this for the face but it can be used all over the body. The product is fragranced with a light and fresh linen smell and comes out almost like a light gel or mousse almost. It’s extremely lightweight, no matter how much you use.

How to use it
Use after washing the face at night when you no longer need protection from sunlight and UV. This product is also excellent after shaving and sport because it cools and soothes the skin almost immediately, aiding skin recovery.

SPF 30 and 50+ Sun Gels

Product lowdown
In very simple terms, our Sun Gels are our version of sunscreen. Whenever you’d normally use sunscreen, try these. The product can be used on your head, face and body. This was our hardest product to formulate and the one we ended up spending most time on from a technical perspective. We wanted to make a product that had a gel/cream-like consistency, that didn’t get trapped in hair and importantly, it needed to have a light and non-greasy feel without leaving a white cast on the skin. We also wanted to simplify the language (and choice) around sunscreen and only produced two options: SPF 30 (shown above) and SPF 50+. Both have UVA 5* rating. To create the grease-free glide of the products, we used a small amount of alcohol. This also creates what’s called ‘flash’ so the product doesn’t feel heavy or greasy in your hands afterwards and quickly disappears. Finally, this product has a fresh linen fragrance.

How to use it
If you know you’re going to be outside in the sun for a sustained period of more than an hour, use the Sun Gels instead of the SPF 30 Daily Moisturiser. Whether that’s on a long walk, sitting by the sea or more vigorous exercise when sweating, you’ll want to know you’ll remain protected. This product won’t run into your eyes. The higher the SPF, the longer you’re protected for so make a choice based on time and UV strength. This is down to personal choice and your own skin type but as a rule of thumb, if the UV index is between 6-11+, we’d recommend SPF 50+ regardless of skin type. You can find the daily UV index where you are on any good weather app.

SPF 50+ Mineral Sun Stick

Product lowdown
This is a pocket-friendly, 100% mineral sunscreen in stick form. We use zinc and aluminium oxide as the main filters to block ultraviolet light. Like all mineral sunscreens, these compounds sit on the skin, like a shield, and bounce light away from the skin. The stick is white and we designed it so you can either rub the product in (so it becomes invisible) or you can just swipe and leave the white trace on your skin. When possible, we focus on ensuring our formulations are non-greasy and this stick fits the bill even though we use waxes to make it into a stick. The stick is water resistant, thanks to the waxes we use, and it provides SPF 50+ protection. That makes it particularly suitable for water-based and mountain activities.

How to use it
Remove the cap, twist the dial and swipe across your face, lips, ears and back of the neck. Of course it can be used all over the body but, given its size, the stick is easier to use on smaller patches of skin. It’s ideal for really intense sunlight whether that’s by water, at altitude or on a high UV day.

SPF 50+ Sun Protection Spray

Product lowdown
By popular demand, we made an SPF 50+ Sun Protection Spray with UVA 5* rating. It comes with all the high performance you’d expect from LifeJacket formulations. There’s not much to say with this one. You spray and rub in. It’s an oil-based product so isn’t as grease-free as our other products but we made sure that it isn’t sticky or heavy. Because oil and water don’t mix, this product is water resistant which makes it ideal for swimmers or other water-based sports.

How to use it
Use on the entire body. If using it on your face, spray the product into your hands first. Apply 15 minutes before going outside to make sure it’s well-absorbed by the skin. The biggest risk with sprays is that the product goes into the ether rather than onto the skin. Be careful to avoid missing any spots by rubbing in gently but thoroughly.

– Suitable for sensitive skin
– Water resistant
– 100% chemical filters
– Not tested on animals
– Does NOT contain: parabens, SLES or SLS

UPF 50+ Casual Tee

Product lowdown
Clothing is an important and effective physical barrier between the sun and your skin. Our casual tee is a lightweight t-shirt that has the look and feel of an ordinary cotton tee with the added protection factor of a UPF 50+ fabric.

The weight of the cloth is 145 GSM and it’s tightly weaved using technical fibres that allow less UV light through the fabric and onto the skin. This means we haven’t had to chemically treat the fabric to achieve our protection standards. So even if you wash the garment thousands of times, it will always protect you because the protection is in-built into the fabric technology itself. The fit is relaxed and we made the sleeves slightly longer than most t-shirts to protect more of your arms when wearing short sleeves.

How to use it
Use just as you would any normal tee. Pairs with jeans, chinos and shorts. Know that if you get caught outside for long periods without sunscreen, your skin is being protected by your tee.

– Laboratory tested
– BS 13758-1
– Wicks away moisture
– Quick dry

UPF 50+ Long-Sleeve Collared Top

Product lowdown
Clothing is an important and effective physical barrier between the sun and your skin. Our casual long sleeve collared tee is a lightweight shirt that has the feel of cotton with the added protection factor of a UPF 50+ fabric. Needless to say, the long sleeves and zip-up collar mean that your entire upper body and neck is protected. The weight of the cloth is slightly greater than our casual tee at 190 GSM (vs. 145 GSM) but otherwise, it uses identical fibres, the same weave pattern and isn’t chemically treated either (see above). The long sleeve collared tee has an athletic fit but isn’t figure-hugging.

How to use it
Use just as you would any normal tee. Pairs with jeans, chinos and shorts. Ideal if you want to cover your entire torso and back of the neck in strong sun. The long sleeves and slightly heavier weight (compared to the casual tee) make it ideal in autumn and spring, when the sun is strong but temperatures are low.

Product lowdown
Clothing is an important and effective physical barrier between the sun and your skin. Our UPF 50+ Rash Vest is medium weight and completely waterproof. Made from 86% polyester and 14% spandex. It comes in a close-fitting, yet flattering design. It can equally be worn out and about, without having to change, thanks to the comfortable, quick-drying and breathable fabric. We also added convenient cycle-jersey style pockets at the back when out of the water for phone, wallet and keys

Wide brim UPF 50+ sun hat

Product lowdown
Protecting the head (especially for anybody with less hair up top), neck, eyes and face was extremely important to us as skin protection obsessives. To pass the standards we felt necessary to have a sun hat part of our offering, we needed to make a wide brimmed hat. This is the only hat shape that’s approved by British and Australian standards for sun protection because it needs the entire neck, face and forehead must be covered. For example, a cap doesn’t protect the back of the neck and would not does not meet the standards we feel are so important. Critically, the lab tests and standards seek to eliminate any possibility of UV light passing through the hat to reach your head. This meant we couldn’t use open mesh for ventilation so used extra eyelets instead. But even the eyelets had to be less than 3mm otherwise the hat would fail all its tests. We use UPF 50+ polyester fabric to make our hat and treat it for water resistance only. We haven’t had to chemically treat the fabric to achieve our protection standards. So even if you get it wet or wash the hat thousands of times, it will always protect you because the protection is in-built into the fabric itself.

How to use it
Use this in direct and strong sun when in the garden, by the beach or on the water.

– Laboratory tested
– BS 8466 : 2006
– Water resistant
– Quick dry
– Not chemically treated
