Everything you need to know about your LifeJacket products

Due to popular demand, here's a summary of the products in our range, how to use them, why we love them and what they can do for your everyday, skin protection game.

SPF 30 Daily Protection Moisturiser

This is your everyday face SPF. Use it every morning after washing, two fingers' or a teaspoons' worth across your face, neck and ears. It absorbs quickly and hydrates at the same time, so you're covered and moisturised the moment you step outside.

Use year-round, even on cloudy days (UV is always there). This is the product that builds the habit. Thirty seconds in the morning and you're protected.

The key thing: This moisturiser doubles as SPF. If you're going to be outside for hours in strong sun, swap it for the Sun Gel instead. But for daily life (commutes, work, errands) this is it.

Daily Repair Moisturiser

This one goes on at night. Use it after cleansing your face, when you don't need UV protection anymore. It repairs the day's damage and reinforces your skin barrier while you sleep. A little goes a long way (it comes out like a light mousse).

It also works brilliantly after a long day outside, post shave or after sport when your skin needs to cool and recover.

Sun Gel (SPF 30 or SPF 50+)

This is your committed sun product. Use it when you know you're going to be outside for a sustained period: beach days, long walks, hiking, sports. Fast absorbing, doesn't run in your eyes, doesn't feel heavy.

Apply 15 minutes before heading outside. Use enough to cover every bit of exposed skin (most people use too little). Reapply regularly, especially after swimming, sweating or towelling.

If UV index is 6 or above, use SPF 50+. Below that, SPF 30 is fine.

SPF 50+ Mineral Sun Stick

Pocket-friendly, no mess. Swipe it across your face, lips, ears and the back of your neck. You can rub it in until it disappears, or leave the white cast visible (both offer full protection). Some people like the visible reminder that they're protected.

Brilliant for high UV days, quick top-ups, or if you prefer mineral filters. Reapply after eating, drinking or wiping your face.

The white trace is normal: That's mineral sunscreen doing its job. It's not a flaw, it's how you know it's there.

SPF 50+ Sun Protection Spray

Full-body coverage, water resistant. Spray it into your hands first (avoids waste), then rub it in thoroughly. Don't spray directly onto your face (product loss and incomplete coverage).

Good for reapplication during the day or hard-to-reach areas.

SPF 50+ Moisturising Lip Protector

Your lips deserve strong protection too. Apply whenever you're exposed to sun, wind or cold. Reapply after eating, drinking or wiping your lips. Compact and slick, it slips into your pocket or kit bag.

Body Wash Bar

A daily body wash bar that cleans, protects and hydrates your entire body (and hair). It forms a rich lather and keeps your skin barrier moisturised the moment you step out of the shower.

Use sparingly, a little goes a long way. It's a concentrated formulation equivalent to a 200ml bottle of shower gel, so you get 100% pure, first-class ingredients with no water or plastic waste.

Face Cleansing Bar

Use this once daily, usually at night before bed. Lather in your hands with lukewarm water, apply to your face, leave for 30 seconds, then rinse.

It removes the day's dirt, oil, pollution and sunscreen without drying your skin out. The 1% salicylic acid gently exfoliates, so you don't need to scrub.

Anti-Chafe Bar

Heavy-duty protection against pain, redness, soreness, blisters, irritation and rashes caused by chafing. Use it wherever skin rubs on skin, fabric or equipment (socks, wet suits, running tops, cycling shorts, etc).

Hold it in your hands for 10 seconds to let it soften slightly, then apply directly to the skin. Depending on the temperature, you can also hold the bar and apply it straight on. It seals in moisture for 24 hours, so your skin barrier stays protected.

UPF Clothing (Tees, Long-Sleeves, Hats, Rashguards)

Clothes are a physical barrier between you and the sun. Wear them like normal clothes. They never need reapplying, never get sweaty, and just work.

The protection is built into the fabric and weave itself, not a chemical coating. Wash them a thousand times and they don't fade.

Machine wash cold, don't tumble dry (preserves the fabric).

Questions You Might Have

Should I use SPF or clothing or both?

Both. Clothing covers the bits it covers brilliantly. SPF covers the rest (face, hands, any exposed skin). Together you're sorted. SPF also gives you the daily habit on cloudy days when you won't wear a hat.

Do I really need SPF on cloudy days?

Yes. About 80% of UV still gets through cloud cover. Cloud isn't protection. This is also why year-round SPF matters: UV is still there, just lower intensity. Daily SPF is simply the easiest habit with the biggest payoff.

How much sunscreen should I actually use?

Most people use way too little. The proper amount is a full shot glass for your whole body, or a coin-sized amount for just your face and neck. If it doesn't feel like enough, that's probably about right. We know it feels like a lot.

What's the difference between the Sun Gel and the Mineral Stick?

Both absorb UV (the Mineral Stick also reflects/scatters some). The Sun Gel is lightweight and invisible. The Mineral Stick is thicker and leaves a white cast, but many people prefer it for sensitive skin or because they like the visible reminder. Use whichever you prefer.

Can I still get vitamin D if I wear SPF?

Yes. You still produce vitamin D with SPF on (it just happens more slowly). The trade-off is worth it. Skin cancer prevention beats the tiny amount of vitamin D you lose. If you're concerned, take a supplement. Don't skip the SPF.

Is SPF 30 or SPF 50+ better?

SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB. SPF 50+ blocks 99%. The difference is marginal. What matters more is that you use it consistently. Use SPF 30 for everyday life. Use SPF 50+ if UV index is high (6 or above) or you're spending hours outside. Both work.

Can I use the Sun Gel in my hair?

Yes but the Sun Protection Spray is more 'fluid' so more likely to reach your scalp rather than get trapped in any hair.

Does the spray sunscreen really work as well as the gel?

Yes, if you use it properly. The key is spraying it into your hands first, then rubbing it in thoroughly. Spraying directly onto skin leaves gaps. Most spray sunscreen failures are application errors, not product failures.

You've now got the tools to protect yourself properly. The hardest part is done. You've chosen better.
